Unemployment in Tallahatchie County rose from 3.1% in May to 3.8% in June, the Mississippi Department of Employment Security reported.
The MDES, which compiles the state’s employment data, noted that 198 members of the county’s 5,257-person labor force were unemployed in June, while 5,059 were employed. The labor force consists of everyone 18 years or older who has a job or is actively looking for one.
Revised May figures show 160 Tallahatchians unemployed, and 5,082 employed, among a labor force of 5,242.

The county’s June jobless rate was six-tenths of 1% less than the 4.4% figure recorded in June 2025, when 209 of 4,792 labor force members did not find work.
Statewide, the unemployment rate rose from 3.5% in May to 4.2% in June. Nationally, joblessness rose from 4.1% to 4.4% over the period.
