Tallahatchie County’s unemployment rate fell to 3.4% in July, according to the Mississippi Department of Employment Security’s monthly Labor Market Data Report.
The latest report showed 174 members of the county’s 5,190-person labor force were unemployed, and 5,016 employed, in July. The labor force consists of everyone age 16 and older who has a job or is actively looking.
In June, 197 of 5,249 Tallahatchie labor force members were jobless, and 5,052 were employed, as unemployment stood at 3.8%.
The county’s July jobless rate was four-tenths of 1% lower than the 3.8% figure in July 2025, when MDES said 196 of 5,095 available laborers did not find work.
July unemployment rates for select area counties, with June rates in parenthesis, are:

Jefferson (22.4%) and Rankin (2.8%) counties had the state’s highest and lowest rates of unemployment.
