An autopsy has been ordered for a missing Charleston-area man who was found deceased near his home Wednesday afternoon.
Tallahatchie County Sheriff Jimmy Fly said the body of Essie Louis Rogers, 65, of 22 Crowder Dr., Charleston, was discovered outdoors on his property at 2:55 p.m.
He noted that while an initial physical inspection at the scene revealed "no apparent injuries to his body ... we are sending him for an autopsy to determine the cause of death."
Tallahatchie County Coroner Anthony Hawkins echoed Fly's assessment of Rogers' appearance and said the autopsy was ordered "as a matter of normal protocol" to ascertain an "accurate cause and date of death."
The sheriff said Rogers, who lived alone, had been reported as a missing person Wednesday morning.
Officials have been told Rogers was last seen alive on Saturday, Nov. 1, about 3 p.m. in Charleston.
