The death count in Tallahatchie County from the COVID-19 pandemic has risen to 37 after the Mississippi State Department of Health reported two more fatalities related to the virus.
The 36th death was acknowledged by MSDH in its Friday, Jan. 29, daily report. A 37th local victim was noted Sunday, Jan. 31.
In all, based on Feb. 4 MSDH data, 1,642 Tallahatchians have tested positive for COVID-19 since the first local case was confirmed on March 23.
The first Tallahatchie death was reported on April 17.
Statewide as of Thursday, 278,532 total cases and 6,182 deaths had been reported, while 238,176 people were presumed to have recovered from the illness.
