Friday at 5 p.m. was the deadline for candidates to qualify for office in this year's municipal elections, and Charleston City Clerk Ana Ealy notified The Sun-Sentinel Friday afternoon via email with the names of four more qualifiers.
They are:
» Jamie Anderson, 56, of 357 W. Chestnut St., Charleston, Democrat for Ward 2 city commissioner
» Crystal Batteast, 39, of 251 Eskridge St., Charleston, independent candidate for Ward 5 city commissioner
» Stuart Denman Jr., 78, of 7208 S. Creek Road, Charleston, Democrat for mayor
» Brenda Walton-Willis, 60, of 270 N. Sarah St., Charleston, Democrat for Ward 3 city commissioner
The Sun-Sentinel will attempt to contact municipal clerks in Glendora, Sumner, Tutwiler and Webb on Monday to learn if they had any last-minute qualifiers. Watch for updates later that day. A complete lineup of candidates for every municipal post in the county will be forthcoming.
Primary election day is Tuesday, April 6. A primary runoff, if needed, would be April 27. The general election is June 8.
Those who are elected in June will begin a new four-year term on July 1.
