Municipalities throughout Tallahatchie County will conduct general elections on Tuesday, June 3, with polls opening at 7 a.m. and closing at 7 p.m.
Any voter in line at 7 p.m. is legally entitled to vote.
To be decided is who will serve as mayor and aldermen for the next four-year term which begins July 1.
Voters’ last chance to vote by in-person absentee ballot is Saturday, May 31. Municipal clerks’ offices will be open from 8 a.m. until noon. All mail-in absentee ballots must be postmarked by June 3.
Only Tutwiler and Webb will conduct impactful elections Tuesday, as all of their candidates qualified as independents and automatically advanced to the general.
The candidate lineup includes the following:
Tutwiler
» Mayor: Incumbent Nichole Harris, 46, is opposed by John “Cheeseburger” Jones, 52, and Johnnie “Muffin” Sykes, 46.
» Ward 1 alderman: Darwin L. Dumas, 53, and Daven L. Grayson, 46, will vie for the post held by Linda Johnson, who did not seek reelection.
» Ward 2 alderman: Incumbent Queen Esther Jones, 71, is challenged by Sheron Reed, 41.
» Ward 3 alderman: Incumbent James E. Farmer, 60, will face off with former West Tallahatchie schools superintendent Sherry Thomas Ellington, 66.
» Ward 4 alderman: Incumbent Diane Pimpton, 61, will duel Dana A. Bell, 38.
» Ward 5 alderman: Incumbent Donnie Cox-Powell, 66, is unopposed.

Webb
» Mayor: Incumbent Michael Plez, 61, faces opposition from Barton Cox, 68, and former Webb mayor Mary Croft, 63.
» Ward 1 alderman: Incumbent Hilary Benson, 47, is unopposed for reelection.
» Ward 2 alderman: Incumbent Maggie Outlaw, 70, is challenged by Shirquita Walker, 41.
» Ward 3 alderman: Incumbent Chiquita Jones, 52, must contend with hopeful Skyler Pickett, 35.
» Ward 4 alderman: Incumbent Betty Powell, 60, is unopposed.
» Ward 5 alderman: Incumbent Denise Calhoun, 45, will face off with former Ward 5 alderman Willie J. Garner, 55.

In Charleston, incumbent Mayor Sedrick Smith Sr., 53, is unopposed for reelection after two opponents, Sharon Bradley and Travis Taylor, were disqualified by election officials for failure to meet residency requirements and the petition signature minimum count, respectively.
Other Charleston Democratic Primary nominees are unopposed in next week's general election.
Glendora and Sumner held no primary elections, as their candidates are all unopposed incumbents and will automatically advance to the general election.

The secretary of state's office this week issued the following election day reminders:
• In-Person Absentee Voting Deadline: The last day to vote absentee vote in-person is Saturday, May 31.
• Mail-In Absentee Voting Deadline: All mail-in absentee ballots must be postmarked by June 3 and received by municipal clerk's offices by June 10.
• Voter ID Affidavit Ballot Deadline: Voters who cast an affidavit ballot because they forgot their voter ID must present an acceptable form of photo ID to their municipal clerk's office by June 10.
• Polling Place Location: Contact your Municipal clerk's office to verify your polling place.
• Voter Photo ID: Voters are required to show photo identification at the polls. A voter without an acceptable form of photo identification is entitled to cast an affidavit ballot. Click here to view a list of acceptable photo IDs.
• Campaigning: It is unlawful to campaign for any candidate within 150 feet of any entrance to a polling place, unless on private property.
• Loitering: The polling places should be clear for 30 feet from every entrance of all people except election officials, voters waiting to vote, or authorized poll watchers.
• Camera Phones: Voters are prohibited from taking pictures of their marked ballot.
