A Charleston man charged in the shooting death of a fellow city resident and the aggravated assault of another faces an upcoming murder trial in Tallahatchie County Circuit Court, according to documents on file Monday at the circuit clerk’s office in Charleston.
Alexander Fitzgerald Maxson Jr., 36, of 228 Lafayette St., was indicted recently on a charge of first-degree murder in the death of 33-year-old Tekeon Brewer.
At a Dec. 12 hearing, Maxson entered a plea of not guilty, and Circuit Judge Jimmy McClure ordered the case set for trial on March 24.
Brewer was struck once in the upper torso while standing on west Elizabeth Street, not far from his home, about 12:30 a.m. on May 20, 2024.
Maxson also is accused of shooting 42-year-old Kendrix Thomson of Webb in the arm during the incident.

» Jessie Lee Manuel, 24, of 613 S. Applegate, Apt. 4, Winona, faces a March 24 trial in front of McClure to answer a December 2023 charge of possession of meth-amphetamine, more than 2.0 grams but less than 10 grams, with intent to transfer.

A Tallahatchie County grand jury for the First Judicial District handed down recent indictments.
» Willie Earl Porter Jr., 19, address unavailable, was indicted on six counts of burglary other than a dwelling and one count of grand larceny in connection with January and February 2024 cases. On Jan. 22, he entered a plea of not guilty to all charges.
» Leigh Ann Doubleday, 53, address unavailable, was indicted on one count of embezzlement in an amount greater than $1,000 but less than $5,000. She pleaded not guilty Jan. 28.
» Asaya Jalanda Nunaley, 24, of 159 Magnolia St., Charleston, was indicted for malicious mischief for a February 2024 incident in which she allegedly damaged or destroyed property with a repair or replacement cost of more than $1,000 but less than $5,000. Nunaley faces a Feb. 25 court appearance.
