Randy E. Bonner, an independent candidate for District 1 supervisor in Tallahatchie County, recently withdrew from the race, according to a document on file at the circuit clerk’s office in Charleston.
In a brief, typed note dated Aug. 22, Bonner, 48, of Enid, announced that he was withdrawing his name from consideration “due to work related opportunities.”
Bonner had qualified Feb. 28 and was the lone remaining hurdle to the re-election of incumbent District 1 Supervisor Kenneth “Buck” Havens, who is seeking a fourth term. With Bonner out of the race, Havens now faces no general election opposition.
Havens, 57, also of Enid, won the Democratic nomination Aug. 6 by receiving 66 percent of the vote in a head-to-head matchup with Zipora “Koot” Hudson of Charleston.
