As part of their weeklong study on community helpers, the kindergarten classes at Charleston Elementary School took a little stroll to Court Square Friday, where they visited the Tallahatchie County Courthouse, post office, both banks and Charleston City Hall.
Outside City Hall, they paused for a photo with a fire truck. They then walked to the James C. Kennedy Wellness Center, where they ate lunch and frolicked on the community playground. At some stops, children received tasty treats or other mementos.
Some youngsters wore costumes depicting the profession they want to work in as adults. Observed were students dressed as doctors, nurses, baseball and football players, police officers, firefighters, cheerleaders, an Army private, a post office worker and a sports official wearing the familiar zebra-striped shirt.
