One Charleston man has been charged in connection with the Tuesday afternoon shooting death of another.
Dilanjan D. “Sugar” Kuykendall, 40, of 220½ W. Elizabeth St., was arrested at 12:46 a.m. Wednesday on a charge of murder, according to an arrest report on file at the Tallahatchie County Jail in Charleston.
Kuykendall’s arrest at the Tallahatchie County Sheriff’s Office building came roughly eight hours after Robert Earl Holmes, 25, of 19 Nell St., was gunned down on Marshall Street Extended, just outside the Charleston city limits.
Tallahatchie County Coroner Ginger Meriwether said Holmes was pronounced dead at 5:13 p.m. at the scene of the shooting.
Meriwether noted that she transported Holmes’ body to the Mississippi Forensics Laboratory in Pearl Tuesday evening for autopsy.
She said it was “undetermined” whether the victim sustained more than one gunshot wound, noting that further details are pending a “forensics lab report.”
Tallahatchie County Sheriff Jimmy Fly said the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation was called in to assist local officials. He noted that MBI brought in their own Crime Scene Unit to process the shooting scene Tuesday night.
Fly declined early Wednesday to provide any other information about the incident, explaining, “Everything is still under investigation.”
