A Charleston man has been charged with aggravated assault for allegedly stabbing a city resident with a butcher knife having a 10-inch blade.
During a Monday preliminary hearing in Charleston Municipal Court, Demetrius Biggins, 48, of 441 Dorothy St., was bound over to the grand jury, according to Police Chief John Page, who said Municipal Judge Tara Lang then ordered Biggins to be released on his own recognizance.
Biggins and South Vine Street resident DeAngelo White, 25, allegedly became embroiled in a heated verbal altercation in the kitchen of a residence at 504 E. Gay St., where both were visiting, Page explained.
“They ended up getting into a physical fight, and a knife somehow got involved,” the chief added.
White sustained a deep puncture wound in the left back during the 12:30 p.m. Friday incident, Page noted.
He was transported by ambulance to Tallahatchie General Hospital, then airlifted to The Med in Memphis, the chief said.
“He’s out and recovering at home now,” Page said of White Tuesday morning.
A butcher knife believed to have been involved in the stabbing was recovered by police, the chief noted.

• Andrew L. Bradley, 35, of 803 N. Sarah St., Charleston, is charged with two counts of shooting into an occupied vehicle, possession of a firearm by a felon, discharging a firearm within the city limits and driving with a suspended license after a March 29 incident.
Page said Bradley allegedly fired a weapon at a pickup truck occupied by a man and his wife after the man and Bradley reportedly exchanged words in the 100 block of Church Street.
The male driver of the truck had stopped to talk to Bradley, the chief noted, adding that the conversation was about “some kind of dispute from the past.”
“They say a pushing match ensued and Bradley allegedly started firing at the truck as it was leaving,” Page added, explaining that the incident occurred at about 7 p.m.
No one was injured, but the vehicle’s passenger side rear quarter panel was riddled with 12 bullet holes, according to a police report by the investigating officer.
Page said no weapon has been recovered.
The victim drove to the Tallahatchie County Jail, where he filed a report of the incident. An arrest warrant was subsequently issued for Bradley, who was pulled over and arrested at 9:06 p.m. Thursday, March 31, while driving a car on North Church Street, Page said.
Bond was initially set at $200,000, the chief noted, but was reduced during a preliminary hearing Monday in Charleston Municipal Court, where Lang ordered Bradley bound over to a grand jury. Bradley was released Monday night after posting a bail bond of $5,000, said Page.
