Charleston Mayor Sedrick Smith has designated April as “Citywide Cleanup Month” in the municipality.
The observance coincides with the nationwide “Great American Cleanup” campaign launched by the Keep America Beautiful organization, and Keep Mississippi Beautiful.
City officials are asking Charleston residents to help clean their neighborhoods during the designated Saturdays of April 16, April 23 and April 30. Trash bags are available at Charleston City Hall for those taking part in the effort.
“The mayor is encouraging all citizens and local organizations to show civic pride and support the city’s efforts to keep Charleston beautiful,” noted City Clerk Clarissa Milner, who asked that photos of residents’ cleanup efforts be emailed to her at cmilner@bbimail.net.
