Glenna Callender, of near Charleston, received the most votes in balloting by members of the Charleston Arts and Revitalization Effort to earn selection as this year’s recipient of CARE’s "Living Legend" award.
Callender was a longtime Charleston schoolteacher and is a former executive director of CARE.
Other nominees for the 2016 honor were Stuart Denman, Dr. Ed Meek, Ruby Pernell, Alice Gray Robinson and Robert Salmon.
The award will be presented to Callender during a Living Legend ceremony to be held at a later date.
The event will be hosted at the Charleston Arts Center.
