The Sumner Volunteer Fire Department on Monday took delivery of a GSI brand Res-Q-Tube.
The 60-inch tall, 27-pound aluminum shield is designed to fit around the victim of a grain bin entrapment situation.
Featuring four panels, the device is used by rescuers to secure a victim while stopping the flow of grain toward the person, relieving the pressure that, if unchecked, could lead to asphyxiation.
Once all four panels are in place, rescuers can start removing the grain around the victim, inside the tube, and extract him. The Tallahatchie County Board of Supervisors approved purchase of the device.
