SUMNER — One person has qualified for next month’s special election for at-large alderman here, according to Town Clerk Toni Clark.
Charles Harris (Charlie) Robinette III, 34, of 211 Jennings St., Sumner, qualified Monday, Feb. 22, noted Clark.
The March 22 election will fill the vacancy on the five-member Sumner Board of Aldermen left by the Jan. 30 death of longtime alderman Leonard Patterson, 77.
Prospective candidates for the position have until 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2, to qualify by submitting a petition bearing the names of 15 registered Sumner voters to Sumner Town Hall. Clark said properly formatted petition forms are available at her town hall office.
The person who is elected next month will serve out the remainder of Mr. Patterson’s unexpired term, which runs until June 30, 2017.
