One man earlier charged with murder has been cleared and two others have been arrested in connection with that crime, Tallahatchie County Sheriff Jimmy Fly said Tuesday.
Dilanjan D. “Sugar” Kuykendall, 40, of 220½ W. Elizabeth St. was initially arrested in the Oct. 29 shooting death of Robert Earl Holmes, 25, of 19 Nell St., Charleston.
Fly said further investigation led to charges against him being dropped about 16 hours after his Oct. 30 arrest.
Authorities subsequently arrested Dilanjan’s brother, Harold “Pree” Kuykendall, 46, of 22 N. Pleasant St., Charleston, on Oct. 30, and then Rodderick D. Johnson, 20, of 703 W. Main St., Charleston, on Nov. 1.
Harold Kuykendall is charged with murder and felon in possession of a firearm. He posted bail of $50,000 and was released on Nov. 8.
Johnson, charged with murder and shooting into a dwelling, remains in custody on a bond of $500,000.
Holmes died after being shot once during a late afternoon hail of gunfire on Marshall Street Extended, just outside the Charleston city limits.
No motive for the shooting has been made public.
Fly, whose office has been assisted by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation in their probe of the incident, said no other arrests are expected in the case.
