WEBB — Officials are investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed two brick homes and an automobile in the Goose Pond subdivision late Thursday night.
No one was home at either residence at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported, said Tallahatchie County Fire Coordinator Linnie Maples.
The blaze was first reported to the Tallahatchie County Sheriff's Office in Sumner at 11:26 p.m., noted Maples.
The coordinator said firefighters arrived at the scene to find the structure at 1143 Goose Pond Lane "fully involved."
Maples said radiant heat, convection and burning embers carried by the wind caused the house next door, at 1129 Goose Pond Lane, to catch fire.
An SUV parked between the houses also blazed up and was destroyed.
Maples noted that the property at 1129 Goose Pond Lane is owned by Randolph and Patricia Jones, while ownership of the other house could not be readily verified.
Firefighters from Sharkey-Hampton Lake, Sumner, Vance, and Webb municipal and county fire departments responded to the conflagration, the coordinator added. Some remained on site for about four hours.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by Tallahatchie County Fire Investigator Shaun Byrd, noted Maples.
