Unemployment in Tallahatchie County rose to 5.5% in November, the Mississippi Department of Employment Security revealed last week.
The county’s November unemployment rate was up three-tenths of 1% from October’s 5.2%, MDES said.
The state’s employment agency noted that 290 members of the county’s 5,230-person labor force were unemployed in November. In October, 270 of 5,250 had been jobless. The labor force consists of everyone who has a job or is actively looking for one.
Tallahatchie’s November unemployment rate is 1% higher than the 4.5% recorded in November 2018, when 240 of 5,310 labor force members were jobless.

Jefferson County’s 15.6% was the state’s highest jobless rate. At 4.0%, Lamar and Rankin tied for the lowest.
