The thing about being a grandparent with kids far away is, something interesting is always going on.
My granddaughter got married in March, her husband is in the Navy and his ship was being built in Pascagoula. On Oct 7, the Navy had the big commissioning ceremony for his ship, The John H. Lucas, before it heads to its home station in San Diego.
My daughter arranged for her entire family to fly out from Des Moines to honor this young sailor and new member of our family. This included, of course, my other granddaughter’s family with my 5-month-old great-grandson.
His entire family was there also, creating many lovely memories for this new couple. It was made all the more special since it was the new bride’s birthday. She is excited to finally be able to share a home with her husband now in San Diego.
With Veterans Day less than a month away, Anita Brougher Lilly from Tutwiler, now living in Brandon, reports that her oldest grandson, Noah Adams, will be getting married on Veterans Day.
Many will remember Anita’s father, Coach Brougher, who taught chemistry and coached girls’ basketball at West Tallahatchie for a number of years. What you may not know is that coach served in the Marines as a first lieutenant and was awarded the Bronze Star for heroic war efforts in Okinawa, Japan, in 1945.
Anita and Tom are proud grandparents, excited to see Noah and Jayanna start their young lives, Noah working as a firefighter and also in computer security, and Jayanna with her bachelor’s in nursing working in the ER of a major hospital in Jackson.
You know Coach Brougher and wife Shirley must be smiling down from Heaven.
