Krystal Cormack, director of the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) Division of Educator Licensure, was guest speaker at the April 24 noon luncheon meeting of the Charleston Rotary Club.
Cormack spoke about enhanced opportunities for nationally board-certified licensed teachers, nurses, school counselors and speech-language pathologists and audiologists.
The MDE already funds a $6,000 annual supplement to nationally board-certified educators anywhere in the state. MDE also pays an additional $4,000 supplement to educators who choose to work in one of 14 Mississippi counties designated as having a critical teacher shortage.
After recent legislative action, Tallahatchie will become one of those 14 counties effective July 1, and nationally board-certified staff in local public schools will receive an extra $10,000, which officials hope will aid both talent recruitment and retention.
