WEBB — A local man was shot to death here Thursday night, and officials hope someone knows something about the crime and will be willing to come forward.
Kenderrick Gaston, 33, of 1052 Oil Mill Quarters, Tutwiler, appeared to have sustained one gunshot wound to the upper torso, noted Tallahatchie County Sheriff Jimmy Fly.
Tallahatchie County Coroner Anthony Hawkins pronounced Gaston dead at the scene and was sending the body for autopsy, Fly added.
"We found eight shell casings, all of the same caliber — 7.62x39mm — in the street, and we recovered one projectile from a building," stated the sheriff, whose office is working the case with the Webb Police Department and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.
Fly said MBI's Crime Scene Unit processed the scene near the corner of East Main and North Cree streets, just down from the old bank building.
The 7.62x39mm cartridge is most commonly associated with certain semiautomatic rifles referred to as assault weapons.
At 8:38 p.m., the first call about the incident came from an area resident who heard shots being fired from an unknown location in Webb, said Fly.
Webb police investigating the report discovered the man's body a short time later, the sheriff added.
"At this time, it is an ongoing investigation, and we are asking anybody who knows anything to please contact us," noted Fly, who said officials have no suspect and no motive for the crime.
To report any information, Fly recommended calling one of the following numbers.
