A Charleston man is being held on a $200,000 bond after allegedly shooting another city resident and discharging a firearm into a vehicle occupied by two young children.
Tallahatchie County Sheriff Jimmy Fly said Michael O’Neal Collins, 32, of 1735 Eskridge St., has been charged with three counts of aggravated assault and one count of shooting into an occupied vehicle.
He remained in custody Tuesday at the Tallahatchie County Correctional Facility in Tutwiler.
Fly said the incident occurred about 4:17 p.m. Sunday in the vicinity of Collins’ residence.
The sheriff said Collins allegedly shot multiple times at a Chevrolet Silverado pickup driven by Jaylon Anderson, 29, of Charleston, and occupied by two boys, ages 3 and 7.
Anderson sustained a gunshot wound to the shoulder but the children were not physically harmed, Fly noted.
Anderson was treated in the emergency room at Tallahatchie General Hospital and has since been released.
The Silverado was transported to the North Mississippi Crime Lab in Batesville for processing, the sheriff noted.
Fly said details of the circumstances preceding the shooting episode remain sketchy, adding, “We’re still investigating it.”
