During two recent Independence Day events in Tallahatchie County, the pride that local residents feel for their country came through loud and clear.
First, at the annual Independence Day celebration at Rosebloom Recreational Park on Saturday, June 29, hundreds of people enjoyed the festivities surrounding this longstanding tradition. Gospel and patriotic singing were married with a special patriotic program and the always crowd-pleasing grand finale fireworks show staged in the ever peaceful and picturesque setting that the Rosebloom facilities afford.
On July 4, the Charleston Arts and Revitalization Effort sponsored their second annual parade and patriotic program in downtown Charleston. It was a nice way to spend a few hours on the morning of our nation’s Independence Day! The program included recognition of veterans of our armed forces who were on hand, as well as the reading of the names of others who died in military service, as featured on monuments standing on the grounds of the Charleston courthouse. Gospel and patriotic singing and music filled the air, and there was an obvious unity of purpose.
2019 being a major statewide, district and county election year, both the Rosebloom and Charles-ton events were sprinkled with brief remarks by political hopefuls who paid a fee for the privilege.
Both were splendid affairs paying tribute to the birthday of the greatest nation on Earth, and organizers of each celebration should be proud of their efforts as well as of everyone who attended and participated in their respective programs.
