Every month, there are 15-20 people who miss food pantry distribution day on the next-to-last Saturday in the month, at each of the Charleston and Parchman facilities.
They often call and want food pantry volunteers to make special arrangements for them. For the protection of volunteers, such arrangements cannot be made.
Food pantry clients are not required to attend a church service to receive food. However, for those who miss the regular monthly distribution day for whatever reason, there is an alternative if clients do not want to wait another month to receive assistance.
Such clients may come at the time of regular church services at either location. After the service, the pantry is always opened for those in need, and assistance can be provided at that time.
At Faith Baptist Church in Charleston, the service times are Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m.
At Calvary Chapel at Parchman, the service times are Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. and Sundays at 9:30 a.m.
Regular services will not be disturbed for those in a hurry. This is simply a way to try to meet clients half-way, to provide assistance for those in need who cannot wait another month.
It is understandable that some people may find it impossible to come to pick up food pantry items on the regularly designated distribution day due to work, funerals or other emergencies.
It is hoped that this will be helpful to the community.
