PAYNES — The water sent to customers' taps by Paynes Water Association is safe to drink, the Mississippi State Department of Health has confirmed through testing of samples taken since the utility's pump failed recently.
Johnnie Taylor, operator of the system, said he pulled five samples Monday from the Paynes water supply and sent them to MSDH. He learned today that the tested water has been found to be safe for consumption.
"People don't have to boil their water anymore," noted Taylor.
In the wake of the system failure, Taylor said he has tried to mitigate any possible repercussions.
"I have been flushing fire hydrants and dead-end lines and monitoring the chlorine," he added.
Editor's note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly identified the impacted water system as Cascilla Water Association.
