PAYNES WATER SYSTEM DOWN FOR UP TO 3 DAYS
Customers of the Paynes Water Association are advised to acquire at least six gallons of water and to turn off their hot water heaters until the system is up and running again.
President Thad Roberts said Wednesday afternoon that the system’s well is down due to an equipment failure. He added that the pump will have to be pulled and repaired, which could take up to three days.
“We have probably got enough water in the [elevated] tank to last until about noon on Thursday,” he noted, explaining the need for the roughly 220 customers of the association to purchase or otherwise acquire water for their personal use in coming days.
He also urges users to turn off the electrical breaker to their hot water heater so that the appliance is not damaged when the water in the tank runs out.

Once the water is turned back on, Paynes Water Association will be under an immediate precautionary boil-water alert until samples of the water submitted to the Mississippi State Department of Health are tested and the water is certified safe to drink. The health department advises these precautions when under a boil-water alert/notice.
