Rosebloom Recreational Park is making final preparations for Saturday’s Independence Day celebration that will feature a program of God, family and country in honor of America’s 250th anniversary.
Admission is free, and everyone is encouraged to show their patriotic pride by wearing red, white and blue clothing and accessories.
The day’s activities begin at 2 p.m. with the opening of arts and crafts booths.
A free water slide will be available for the children to enjoy from 2-6 p.m. All children must be supervised.
A competitive car show will be on display from 2-6 p.m., and awards will be presented to the top three places later in the day. There is a $25 entry fee, and anyone interested may contact Don Davis at 662-647-7043.
At 4:30 p.m., there will be gospel music offered by Ken Harrison and friends, and one hour later, at 5:30, local favorite Troy Hill and friends will continue sacred music.
A patriotic program will get underway at 6.
State Rep. Tracey Rosebud will address the crowd, after which veterans of the U.S. armed forces who are in attendance will be honored.
Winners of the car show will be revealed and awarded prizes.
Youngsters who participated in the park’s summer youth ball program will be announced. All ballplayers are asked to wear their uniform for the occasion.
Honey Please, a band whose repertoire includes selections from across the musical spectrum, will perform from 6:45 to 8:45 p.m.
At 9, one of the area’s most spectacular fireworks shows will illuminate the sky above Rosebloom park.
As always, a park concession stand will be open throughout the day to offer foods, treats and beverages.
Because this is a family-friendly event, park officials say absolutely no alcoholic beverages will be allowed.
Everyone is encouraged to bring a lawn chair.
The park is located at 9895 Rosebloom Road, Scobey, MS 38953.
