School board qualifying period opens on Aug. 1

The qualifying period for two school board positions in Tallahatchie County that will appear on some Nov. 2 ballots is just weeks away from opening, Circuit Court Daphane Neal said Monday.
Qualifying can begin Aug. 1, while the qualifying deadline is Sept. 3 at 5 p.m., Neal noted.

Meek Foundation awards 'Enterprise Grants for Education' to 20 local students

The newly formed Ed and Becky Meek Foundation has awarded Enterprise Grants to assist 20 Tallahatchie County students to continue their studies at area colleges, community colleges and job-skills programs this fall.

Incoming East Tallahatchie school superintendent pledges to 'work extremely hard' to improve academics

Newly hired East Tallahatchie School District Superintendent Johnnie L. Vick said he is “excited” about the opportunity here and ready to “work extremely hard” to improve the Charleston schools.
Vick, 55, will officially take over the position July 1.
