Runoff candidates for the state Senate District 24 seat formerly held by David Jordan will deliver remarks and field questions during a public event Thursday, Nov. 13, at 6 p.m., at the former National Guard armory in Charleston.
Mayor Sedrick Smith Sr. said he reached out to Curressia M. Brown of Greenwood and Justin Pope of Pope, inviting them to the event.
Brown and Pope were the top two vote-getters from a field of six candidates for the District 24 post in the Nov. 4 general election. No one received a majority, necessitating the Dec. 2 runoff.
Smith stressed that Thursday's gathering in Charleston will not be a debate but is rather intended to give the voting public some insight into Brown and Pope, what they believe and where they stand on some of the issues. After making statements, the candidates will take part in a question-and-answer session, Smith noted.
Refreshments will be served.
Everyone is invited.
