The West Tallahatchie Lady Choctaws dropped a 60-35 decision to Newton in Friday morning quarterfinals action of the Class 2A state basketball tournament at Jackson State University. The Lady Choctaws finish the year at 28-5.
On the boys' side of the bracket, the West Tally Choctaws defeated Prentiss 63-52 in a midday Friday quarterfinals game at the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson. Prentiss ends the year with a mark of 18-13.
West Tally's boys, now 32-0, advance to face the 27-4 Baldwyn Bearcats in a semifinals game Tuesday at 4 p.m. at the Mississippi Coliseum. The winner of that match will play in the state championship tilt next Friday.
Baldwyn earned the right to face West Tally by topping 21-9 Heidelberg 62-53 Friday morning.
