On National Signing Day Feb. 5, Charleston High School defensive tackle Alfernee Hankins signed a National Letter of Intent to play football for the Northeast Mississippi Community College Tigers in Booneville.
As a senior at CHS, Hankins racked up 54 total tackles, 39 of which were solos. He also led the Charleston Tigers with eight sacks, and he recorded two interceptions, one caused fumble and one fumble recovery.
The 6-0, 225-pound Hankins was a postseason Mississippi Association of Coaches first-team All-State selection. From left are James Love Sr., CHS head coach Scott Martin, Markaiden Brown, Lashanda Love, Hankins, James Love, Mary Love, Alexis Tenner and CHS defensive coordinator LaDon Taylor.
Hankins plans to major in sports medicine.
