Public schools in Tallahatchie County fared worse than the state average in dropout and graduation rates, according to a report released last week by the Mississippi Department of Education.
Statewide, the 2023-24 school-year graduation rate was 89.2% and the dropout rate was 8.5%.
The graduation rate for the East Tallahatchie School District was 86.9%, and the dropout rate was 11.5%. The ETSD graduation rate was higher for female students (94.1%) than males (77.8%).
In the West Tallahatchie School District, the graduation rate was 80.0%. At 8.6%, the dropout rate was only slightly higher than the state average. In WTSD, more male students (82.6%) than female students (75.0%) graduated after four years of high school.
