Beach party bingo on tap at CARE
Beach party bingo will be featured at CARE on Friday, May 30. The first game will begin at 5:30 p.m. CARE Executive Director Dana Clolinger said the event will be “a night filled with fun, food, prizes and bingo,” adding, “No charge for this crazy fun night, but you must bring a ‘white elephant’ gift wrapped or in a bag. No need to buy anything; just bring something you already have.”

Little Hubbard sets 3-night revival
The Little Hubbard Missionary Baptist Church, pastored by Rev. Glen Swims, will host revival from Monday, June 2, through Wednesday, June 4, starting at 7 each night. Rev. Darryl Booker of St. John Missionary Baptist Church will be the guest speaker.
Thursday June 5
GriefShare offers grief support
GriefShare, a grief recovery support group, will begin regular meetings Thursday, June 5, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., and continue each Thursday thereafter through Aug. 28.
Weekly sessions will be held at Friendship East Baptist Church, located at 3722 Friendship East Road, Charleston.
GriefShare is a video series that features some of the nation’s foremost Christian experts on grief and recovery topics as seen from a biblical perspective. The video seminars are combined with a small group discussion of the materials presented during the video.
The 13-week sessions include topics such as “Is This Normal?”, “The Challenges of Grief,” “Grief and Your Relationships,” “Why?”, “Guilt and Anger,” and more.

Back to School Expo offers freebies
The Tallahatchie County Back to School Expo will be held Saturday, June 7, from 9 a.m. until noon, at locations in both eastern and western Tallahatchie.
Free and open to the public, the event offers free school supplies, backpacks, uniforms, important information, food, prizes, music, family fun and other giveaways to help students from pre-K through 12th grade to gear up for success in the 2025-26 school year.
In Charleston, the expo will be held at the James C. Kennedy Wellness Center, located down the hill from Tallahatchie General Hospital at 188 Honeysuckle Dr.
In Glendora, the expo will be held at the West Tallahatchie Head Start Center, located at 964 Sturdivant Road.
Birdia Keglar Day set in Charleston
A 20th year celebration for a local icon of freedom and equality, Birdia Keglar, will be Saturday, June 7, in Charleston. The theme is “Honoring the Past. Shaping the Future.”
After a drum call to the community at 10 a.m. on the grounds of the Tallahatchie County Courthouse in Charleston, there will be a cavalcade to the former National Guard armory off George Cossar Boulevard. There will be games and other age-appropriate activities for youth, including concessions, art contest, dance contest, scavenger hunt and face painting. Voter education and registration tables will be available. Health/wellness screenings will be provided by medical professionals. There will be community resource presenters and takeaways.
Other entertainment is scheduled. Lunch will be served and door prizes given.

Paducah Wells ladies’ event slated
The Paducah Wells Church of God of Prophecy will be having their annual “Ladies’ Luncheon” on Saturday, June 7, with registration getting underway at 11 a.m. Lunch will be served at noon.
Guest speaker will be Mrs. Kelly Williams of Tupelo. The vocalist will be Mrs. Beverly Smith Taylor of Cascilla.
There is no fee for the luncheon.

Adams Arbor lunch fundraiser set
A first Sunday plate lunch fundraiser will be held for Adams Arbor Church of God of Prophecy on Sunday, June 8, from noon until.
The lunch will feature a Bloodworth’s catfish plate with trimmings, dessert and a drink. Four pieces of fish is $15, and extra pieces are $1.50 each. Or, a three-piece chicken strip lunch may be purchased for $10.
D.S.4. gospel group concert on tap
The gospel group, D.S.4., of Sumner, will be celebrating their 32nd gospel anniversary program on Sunday, June 8, beginning at 4:45 p.m., at Pleasant Valley Missionary Baptist Church, 1501 Walnut St., in Clarksdale.
Scheduled for the event are the Delta Boys, Kaiser Singers, Cork Sisters, The Brothers, Dianne & the Spiritual Angels, the Spiritual Soldiers, Bessie & Chosen, and A Praising Grace. There will be solos by Willie “Sonny” Matthew and evangelist Rashunna Rodgers.
All churches, pastors, groups, soloists, choirs and the public are invited to attend.

Vacation Bible School at Corinth Baptist Church is June 9-12 from 6-8 p.m. daily, offering children ages 4-18 Bible stories, crafts, music and an opportunity to meet new friends.

Calvary Food Pantry to distribute
Calvary Food Chapel, at 36 Ward-Riddick Road, just east of Parchman off Highway 32, will distribute food 7:30-9:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 24, for those living in the West Tallahatchie area and in Sunflower County outside the city limits of Drew (which has its own pantry). Food pantry distribution day is now the next-to-last Saturday of each month.

Bachler graduates from Holmes
Adam Keegan Bachler, of Charleston, graduated from Holmes Community College, Grenada Campus, with a degree in Heating and Air Conditioning. Bachler graduated with a 4.0 GPA and is now employed by Ross Heating and Air in Charleston. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Wine.
Taylor earns degree from Belhaven
Belhaven University has announced that Monchelle Taylor, of Charleston, recently graduated from Belhaven University with a Master of Arts in Teaching degree. She was among more than 400 students who received degrees from Belhaven during spring commencement exercises at the private Christian university located in Jackson.
ETSD offers free summer feeding
The East Tallahatchie School District’s summer feeding program will be conducted from June 2-30, with breakfast served daily from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and lunch from 10:30 a.m. until 11:45 p.m. at Charleston Elementary School. The meals will be offered for free to children 18 and younger.
