The Charleston Arts Center (CARE building) will host a ladies paint night class on Friday, June 27, starting at 5:30 p.m. The art session is free with refreshments provided, but donations are appreciated. Mt. Levy sets family, friends event
Mt. Levy Missionary Baptist Church, located at 881 Sharkey Road, Charleston, will host a family and friends day event on Sunday, June 29, beginning at 2:30 p.m. Guest speaker will be Bishop Raymond Carter of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Tchula.
Saturday July 5
Rosebloom sets annual celebration
Rosebloom Recreational Park will hold its annual Fourth of July celebration on Saturday, July 5. The event is free to the public thanks to the generosity of many area sponsors.
There will be an inflatable water slide from 4-6 p.m. along with vendors and concessions.
The official program will start at 6 p.m. with a prayer, the Pledge of Allegiance and the national anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
Entertainment will feature live music performed by the Christian group Griffith, from Nashville. Griffith has a rich vocal sound that is Southern, progressive and all their own.
Following Griffith, veterans will be recognized for their service to the country.
A fireworks display to celebrate the nation’s independence will begin about 9 p.m.

Hitts Chapel sets building fund event
Hitts Chapel, located at 3266 Highway 32 W., Webb, will host a building drive fund service on Sunday, July 6, at 2:30 p.m. Guest speaker will be Jerry Jones, of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church. The public is invited to come out “and help us praise the Lord,” said a spokesperson. The pastor is Elder J.E. Hall.

St. John plans women’s fellowship
St. John Missionary Baptist Church Daughters of Destiny Women’s Fellowship invites all women to their meeting Saturday, July 12, at 10 a.m. in the church’s fellowship hall.
The meeting will focus on health, heart and harmony. Cassandra Weston-Hainsworth, Mississippi State University Extension agent, will demonstrate how to prepare an easy, tasty, low-sodium meal. Come ready to taste, learn and laugh with sisters in Christ!

Old Antioch observes 121st year
Pastor Lorenzo K. Robinson and members of the Old Antioch Baptist Church, located at 6479 Friendship West Road, Sumner, invite everyone to the church’s 121st anniversary program on Sunday, July 13, at 2 p.m.
The theme is, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart.” (Colossians 3:23-24) The colors are purple/white, and lilac/white.
Pastor Victoria West of Hayward Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Greenwood will be the guest speaker.
St. John to honor Gladys Robinson
St. John Missionary Baptist Church, located at 1100 Highway 32 West, Drew (but still in Tallahatchie County, will conduct an appreciation program for evangelist Gladys Robinson’s 25 years of ministry on Sunday, July 13, starting at 2:30 p.m.
Guest speaker will be R.C. Chambers, pastor of Persimmon Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Glendora.
Colors are red, white and gold, and Joseph Martin is the St. John pastor.
Calvary Chapel tells start of VBS
Calvary Chapel at Parchman will conduct Vacation Bible School from Sunday, July 13, until Wednesday, July 16, at 5:30 each night. The theme is “Wonder Junction,” and classes are for those from age 3 to high school.
Calvary Chapel is located at 36 Ward-Riddick Road, seven-tenths of a mile east of Parchman’s front gate on the north side of Mississippi Highway 32. Many will know it as the “food pantry church.” As with all activities at the church, everyone is invited.

Faith sets Vacation Bible School
Faith Baptist Church near Charleston will have Vacation Bible School Monday, July 14, through Thursday, July 17, from 9:30 until noon daily. The theme is “Wonder Junction,” and classes are for age 3 to high school.
Faith Baptist Church is located just east of Charleston at 30028 Highway 32. Many will know it as the “food pantry church.” At Faith, “everybody is somebody, and Jesus Christ is Lord,” noted pastor Joe Young, who said everyone is welcome to attend.

Paint class features Bob Ross artist
Bob Ross-certified artist Deanna Gregory will teach a painting class at CARE on Friday, July 18, beginning at 5 p.m. Cost of the class is $25, which will cover all supplies needed.

Calvary Food Pantry to distribute
Calvary Food Chapel, at 36 Ward-Riddick Road, just east of Parchman off Highway 32, will distribute food 7:30-9:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 19, for those living in the West Tallahatchie area and in Sunflower County outside the city limits of Drew (which has its own pantry). Food pantry distribution day is now the next-to-last Saturday of each month.
