The Tallahatchie Sharp Shooters will have sign-up for this year’s Shooting Sports program on Thursday, Feb. 19, starting at 5:30 p.m., at the Extension office in Charleston.
Friday February 20
Chick-fil-A returns to CARE
On Friday, Feb. 20, the Chick-fil-A food truck will be in front of the CARE building in Charleston from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. to allow members of the community to purchase food. Chick-fil-A donates a portion of money from sales to CARE.
Bingo to benefit Recovery Center
On Friday, Feb. 20, starting at 5:30 p.m., CARE will host bingo to benefit the Charleston Recovery Center. CARE will provide all food and bingo prizes. Attendees are asked to bring nonperishable food items that will be donated to the Recovery Center at the end of February.
Saturday February 21
Calvary Food Pantry to distribute
Calvary Food Pantry, at 36 Ward-Riddick Road, just east of Parchman off Highway 32, will distribute food from 8-9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21, for those living in the West Tallahatchie area and in Sunflower County outside the city limits of Drew (which has its own food pantry). Any car in line on time at 9 a.m. will be served, but those arriving late will not be served. Food pantry distribution day is the next-to-last Saturday of each month.
Calvary Food Pantry serves from a drive-thru at its warehouse behind the main building at Calvary Chapel of Parchman. The facility is clearly visible on the north side of the highway, and is marked with a large sign.
Faith Food Pantry to distribute
Faith Food Pantry, located at 30028 Highway 32, Charleston, will distribute food from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21. Food pantry distribution day is usually the next-to-last Saturday of each month.
Poll manager training session set
The Tallahatchie County Democratic Executive Committee has scheduled a poll manager training session for the upcoming March 10 congressional primary election.
The training session will be held Saturday, Feb. 21, at 10 a.m., at the Tallahatchie County Courthouse in Charleston.
All previous poll managers are asked to attend. Other individuals with a desire to ensure the Democratic process are asked to attend one of the training sessions.

New Town Black history program set
James D. Buckley, along with Sisters with Love Ministries, presents a Black history program, “Taking a Stand for Justice in the Past, Present and Future,” on Sunday, Feb. 22, starting at 2 p.m., at New Town Missionary Baptist Church in Charleston.
Tuesday February 24
Free children’s karate class offered
The Charleston Arts Center will host an after-school karate class at CARE on Tuesday, Feb. 24. Classes are free and open to ages 5 to 12. Classes are at 3:30 and 4:30. A snack will be provided.
Friday February 27
Student art entries due at CARE
Entries for the annual Student Art Show at CARE are due by 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 27. The show awards ribbons and cash prizes to students ages 5 to 18 in numerous categories. An awards reception will also be held in March to award the prizes. For information, call 662-647-0942 or stop by CARE.
Ladies paint night on tap at CAC
The Charleston Arts Center (CARE building) will host a ladies paint night class on Friday, Feb. 27, starting at 5:30 p.m. The event offers a fun-filled evening for ladies to learn painting techniques while enjoying food and beverages. Mt. Zion plans church anniversary
The Mt. Zion Church family will have their church anniversary program on Sunday, March 8, at 2:30 p.m. Evangelist Johnny Delaney will be the guest speaker. Everyone is invited, noted deacon Bobby Gross.
Tuesday March 10
Silver Star sets two nights of revival
The Silver Star Missionary Baptist Church of Rome, located at 208 Main St., will conduct a two-night spring revival on Tuesday, March 10, and Wednesday, March 11, at 7 nightly. The ministers are Tim and Monica Taylor of Birmingham, Alabama. All are invited, noted Dr. Gregory Braggs Sr., pastor.

District usher program scheduled
The Mt. Moriah District’s annual usher program will be held Sunday, March 15, at 3 p.m., at the Mt. Moriah Association building near Coffeeville. Rev. Toney Armstrong, pastor of Bryant Chapel Missionary Baptist Church of Big Creek, will be the guest speaker. All are invited to attend.

MSU announces fall graduates
Nearly 1,400 students were on the fall graduation list at Mississippi State University, including the following local students:
• Shelby Boyett, of Tillatoba, who received the Bachelor of Science from MSU’s Bagley College of Engineering
• Takias Hall, of Holcomb, who received the Bachelor of Science from MSU’s College of Arts and Sciences
• Lancaster Hill, of Tillatoba, who received the Master of Science from MSU’s Bagley College of Engineering
UM announces fall honor rolls
The University of Mississippi has announced local students who have been named to fall semester honor lists. To be eligible for honor roll designation, a student must have completed at least 12 graded hours for the semester and may not be on academic probation during the semester.

Save date for Birdia Keglar event
The 2026 Birdia Keglar Legacy Celebration will be held Saturday, June 6, in Tallahatchie County. A full day of remembrance activities are being planned, including a drum call to the community, educational activities for children, games for children and adults, awarding of the Birdia Keglar Legacy Scholarship, presentations by community leaders and political officials, food, entertainment and door prizes.
All who will are asked to join in the tribute to the work and purpose of Mrs. Birdia G. Keglar (1908-1966). More information will be released as the celebration nears.
