Saturday May 2
4-H Shooting Sports event slated
The annual 4-H Shooting Sports competition will be held Saturday, May 2, at the Tallahatchie County Fairgrounds near Charleston. The public is invited to come out and support Tallahatchie County 4-H youth as they compete in this district Shooting Sports event.
Camp Lakeside Day activities set
The annual Camp Lakeside Day, a fundraiser benefitting Camp Lakeside, will be held Saturday, May 2, beginning at noon.
Barbecue plates, hamburgers, hot dogs and concessions will be available for purchase.
There will be a bounce house and other activities on hand to enjoy.
The schedule of events includes:
» A silent auction beginning at noon and ending at 4 p.m.
» Gospel singing beginning at noon.
» A cake auction beginning at 4 p.m.

Kentucky Derby watch party slated
On Saturday, May 2, CARE will again hold a Kentucky Derby watch party at the home of Patti and Ken Gregory in Charleston beginning at 4 p.m. Tickets may be purchased from CARE for $25 per person. For more information, call CARE at 662-647-0942.

Calvary Food Pantry to distribute
Calvary Food Pantry, at 36 Ward-Riddick Road, just east of Parchman off Highway 32, will distribute food from 8-9 a.m. on Saturday, May 23, for those living in the West Tallahatchie area and in Sunflower County outside the city limits of Drew (which has its own food pantry). Food pantry distribution day is the next-to-last Saturday of each month.

Faith Food Pantry, located at 30028 Highway 32, Charleston, will distribute food from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 23. Food pantry distribution day is on the next-to-last Saturday of each month.

Birdia Keglar Legacy events planned
The Birdia Keglar Legacy Committee announces the 21st annual celebration to take place on Saturday, June 6, in the Charleston area beginning at 10 a.m.
On the lawn of the Tallahatchie County Courthouse in Charleston, the celebration will bring together leaders and community representatives who stand steadfast in keeping alive the efforts of Mrs. Keglar before her untimely death on Jan. 11, 1966.
Featuring a drum call to the community, the opportunity to support longstanding activism and staying the course of action remains the highlighted mission of this yearly event.
During the morning session, an array of entertainment will be featured, including youth dance performances and instrumental and vocal renditions.
An annual cavalcade will proceed from Charleston Court Square to New Town Church, where the afternoon will feature reflections of the commitment of Mrs. Keglar and her group of pioneers who engaged fervently for enhancement of their community.
Participants in this year’s celebration will be reminded of the history of the Birdia Keglar Legacy. A voter education presentation, the awarding of the 2026 BKLegacy scholarship, entertainment, trivia, giveaways and lunch will also be a part of the day’s event.
Everyone is invited to attend and continue to connect and collaborate with recognizing the challenges that our communities face.
Souvenir T-shirts are available for purchase by May 1. Prices are $12 for youth, $25 for adults up to size 2X, and $27 for 3X and larger.
