Rosebloom VBS sessions ongoing
Rosebloom Church of the Nazarene has Vacation Bible School sessions continuing Thursday, May 28, and Friday, May 29, from 6-8 p.m. each day. Featuring lessons, music, activities and fellowship for all ages, VBS began Wednesday, May 27. All are invited.
Saturday May 30
Robert Hill to play ball, give honor
Robert Hill Youth Foundation Inc. has announced that their baseball opening day will be Saturday, May 30, at the youth league fields near the Charleston Industrial Park.
Opening day ceremonies activities will occur from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Field 1 will be dedicated as the “Brian Spurlock Field,” in honor of the “Little man with a huge heart,” who died April 20 at the age of 24. Family members, classmates, friends, former coaches and Robert Hill alumni are invited to attend.
The Charleston High School boys track and field team, who recently won the program’s first-ever state championship in the sport, will be honored, during that time, as well.
Games are set to begin about 11 a.m.

Mt. Pisgah Vacation Bible School set
Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, located at 1079 Mt. Pisgah Road, Enid, will conduct Vacation Bible School Monday, June 1, through Thursday, June 4, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. daily. All students from kindergarten to the sixth grade are welcome.
Old Antioch to host revival services

Birdia Keglar Legacy events planned
The Birdia Keglar Legacy Committee announces the 21st annual celebration to take place on Saturday, June 6, in the Charleston area beginning at 10 a.m.
On the lawn of the Tallahatchie County Courthouse in Charleston, the celebration will bring together leaders and community representatives who stand steadfast in keeping alive the efforts of Mrs. Keglar before her untimely death on Jan. 11, 1966.
Featuring a drum call to the community, the opportunity to support longstanding activism and staying the course of action remains the highlighted mission of this yearly event.
During the morning session, an array of entertainment will be featured, including youth dance performances and instrumental and vocal renditions.
An annual cavalcade will proceed from Charleston Court Square to New Town Church, where the afternoon will feature reflections of the commitment of Mrs. Keglar and her group of pioneers who engaged fervently for enhancement of their community.
Participants in this year’s celebration will be reminded of the history of the Birdia Keglar Legacy. A voter education presentation, the awarding of the 2026 BKLegacy scholarship, entertainment, trivia, giveaways and lunch will also be a part of the day’s event.
Everyone is invited to attend and continue to connect and collaborate with recognizing the challenges that our communities face.
Souvenir T-shirts are available for purchase by May 1. Prices are $12 for youth, $25 for adults up to size 2X, and $27 for 3X and larger.

St. John Mother Board induction set
The St. John Missionary Baptist Church family announces the upcoming induction of four members into the Mother Board. All are invited to attend the special service on Sunday, June 7, at 11 a.m., at St. John, 331 N. Church St. in Charleston.
Those receiving this distinguished honor are Ms. Rose Ella Brown, Mrs. Fannie Dunn, Mrs. Lois Turner and Mrs. Linda Walker.
The four new inductees will join current St. John Mother Board members Doris Taylor, Quinsola Keglar and Ruthie Blue.

4-H Lego Club set for three dates
4-H Lego Club, conducted by the Tallahatchie County 4-H Club in partnership with CARE, will be held Friday, June 19; Tuesday, June 30; and Tuesday, July 7, at the CARE building in Charleston. Calvary Food Pantry to distribute
Calvary Food Pantry, at 36 Ward-Riddick Road, just east of Parchman off Highway 32, will distribute food from 8-9 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, for those living in the West Tallahatchie area and in Sunflower County outside the city limits of Drew (which has its own food pantry). Food pantry distribution day is the next-to-last Saturday of each month.

Local students earn WC honors
William Carey University has announced local students who appeared on honors lists for the spring 2026 semester.
Named to the President’s List, requiring a perfect 4.0 GPA, was Catherine Dane Moring of Charleston.
Appearing on the Dean’s List, which necessitates at least a 3.5 GPA, was Fenisha Chatmon of Charleston.
Scholars on both lists must have no failing grade in any class.
NWCC reveals spring honor lists
Northwest Mississippi Community College on Tuesday revealed the names of local students who qualified for academic honors at the close of the spring 2026 semester.

The Charleston Arts and Revitalization Effort (CARE) is inviting registration for its summer camp programs, which begin June 1.

Earn high school diploma in 22 weeks
The Mississippi Youth ChalleNGe Academy, located at Camp Shelby, is the premier alternative education program for 16- to 18-year-old youth who are struggling in school or no longer attending.
With a focus on job training, social skills and self-discipline, ChalleNGe is a nonprofit high school diploma-producing academy designed specifically to meet the needs of high school dropouts and at-risk youth. It is a part of the Mississippi National Guard Youth Challenge Program.
Participants may earn their high school diploma in just 22 weeks. Tuition, room and board are absolutely free.
ChalleNGe also offers college classes through a local university. Both male and female applicants are accepted.
