‘Rally for a Cure’ cancer fundraiser on tap
The annual Rally for a Cure cancer fundraising event will be held Saturday, June 13, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., at the old National Guard armory in Charleston. The event will consist of both live and silent auctions, a sweep shop, cakewalk, health care tables and more. Delmont Wings and Things food truck will be set up with food and drinks to purchase. DS4 Gospel Group’s anniversary event slated
DS4 Gospel Group of Sumner will host their 33rd gospel celebration Sunday, June 14, at 4:45 p.m., at Pleasant Valley Missionary Baptist Church, 1051 Walnut St., in Clarksdale.

Persimmon Hill sets weeklong VBS classes
Persimmon Hill Missionary Baptist Church will host annual Vacation Bible School, Monday, June 15, through Friday, June 19, at 7 nightly. The theme is “Hooked! Reeled in to Serve God.” The adult instructor will be pastor George Forest of Rocky Mountain Missionary Baptist Church of Water Valley. 4-H Lego Club scheduled for three dates
4-H Lego Club, conducted by the Tallahatchie County 4-H Club in partnership with CARE, will be held Friday, June 19; Tuesday, June 30; and Tuesday, July 7, at the CARE building in Charleston. NCDO Father’s Day pancake breakfast slated
The Charleston chapter of the National Charleston Day Organization will host its annual Father’s Day pancake breakfast on Saturday, June 20. The event will be held at the Charleston Day Center, located on David Alford Memorial Road, aka Oak Grove Road, from 8-10 a.m.
Attendees are invited to enjoy a full breakfast featuring bacon, sausage, eggs, grits, fruit, coffee and juice.
Meals will be available for dine-in at the center’s multipurpose room or for carry-out.
Organizers say this event serves as an excellent opportunity to celebrate a father figure in a communal atmosphere.

Calvary Food Pantry tells of distribution
Calvary Food Pantry, at 36 Ward-Riddick Road, just east of Parchman off Highway 32, will distribute food from 8-9 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, for those living in the West Tallahatchie area and in Sunflower County outside the city limits of Drew (which has its own food pantry). Food pantry distribution day is the next-to-last Saturday of each month.

Charleston library to host book-signing event
J. Alexander Williams will be signing copies of his book, “N. S. & Me: My Personal Journey of Healing,” on Saturday, June 20, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., at the Tallahatchie County Library in Charleston. The book chronicles the author’s personal journey through Nephrotic Syndrome, a rare kidney disorder. Justin is the son of Johnny and Shirley Williams.

Two churches preparing for Bible School
Calvary Chapel at Parchman and Faith Baptist Church of Charleston have arranged to host Vacation Bible School for children in this area the week of July 12-15.
A team of VBS teachers from First Baptist Church in Trussville, Alabama, will assist local church workers in providing a fun and safe learning experience for children age 3 to high school.
The Bible school theme for both churches will be “Illumination Station.”
To help parents with scheduling, the children will be provided a light meal during VBS.
From Sunday through Tuesday, July 12-14, Calvary Chapel will host their VBS from 5:30 until 8:30 p.m.
From Monday through Wednesday, July 13-15, Faith Baptist Church will host VBS from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. daily.
Calvary Chapel is located just north of Highway 32, seven-tenths of a mile east of Parchman. Faith Baptist is located seven-tenths of a mile east of Charleston on Highway 32.
