Persimmon Hill sets weeklong VBS classes
Persimmon Hill Missionary Baptist Church has been hosting annual Vacation Bible School this week, and classes continue Thursday and Friday, June 18-19, at 7 nightly. The theme is “Hooked! Reeled in to Serve God.” The adult instructor is pastor George Forest of Rocky Mountain Missionary Baptist Church of Water Valley. All are invited, said pastor Andrew Fluker and secretary Gwen Herron.

4-H Lego Club scheduled for three dates
4-H Lego Club, conducted by the Tallahatchie County 4-H Club in partnership with CARE, will be held Friday, June 19; Tuesday, June 30; and Tuesday, July 7, at the CARE building in Charleston. This club is for youth ages 8-13. Tallahatchie County 4-H Extension Agent Shelbie Phelps urges anyone interested to call CARE at 662-647-0942 to register.

NCDO Father’s Day pancake breakfast slated
The Charleston chapter of the National Charleston Day Organization will host its annual Father’s Day pancake breakfast on Saturday, June 20. The event will be held at the Charleston Day Center, located on David Alford Memorial Road, aka Oak Grove Road, from 8-10 a.m.
Attendees are invited to enjoy a full breakfast featuring bacon, sausage, eggs, grits, fruit, coffee and juice.
Meals will be available for dine-in at the center’s multipurpose room or for carry-out.
Organizers say this event serves as an excellent opportunity to celebrate a father figure in a communal atmosphere.

Calvary Food Pantry tells of distribution
Calvary Food Pantry, at 36 Ward-Riddick Road, just east of Parchman off Highway 32, will distribute food from 8-9 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, for those living in the West Tallahatchie area and in Sunflower County outside the city limits of Drew (which has its own food pantry). Food pantry distribution day is the next-to-last Saturday of each month.
Faith Food Pantry to distribute foodstuffs
Faith Food Pantry, located at 30028 Highway 32, Charleston, will distribute food from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 20. Food pantry distribution day is on the next-to-last Saturday of each month.
B&PW Club plans revitalization brunch
The Business and Professional Women’s Club revitalization brunch will be held Saturday, June 20, at 11 a.m., at Bertha Daycare, 184 W. Gay St., Charleston. Charleston library to host book-signing event
J. Alexander Williams will be signing copies of his book, “N. S. & Me: My Personal Journey of Healing,” on Saturday, June 20, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., at the Tallahatchie County Library in Charleston. The book chronicles the author’s personal journey through Nephrotic Syndrome, a rare kidney disorder. Justin is the son of Johnny and Shirley Williams.

Cross of Christ sets Juneteenth celebration service
Cross of Christ Love Center in Charleston invites the public to attend a Juneteenth celebration event set for Sunday, June 21, with worship service beginning at 11 a.m. The theme is “Free Indeed: Celebrating Freedom, Faith and Heritage through Christ.” Pastor Maeotha Gardner said, “We welcome the entire community to come worship with us as we honor Black history, celebrate freedom, and lift up the name of Jesus Christ together.”
Holly Grove sets special day for men, women

Taylor Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church invites the public to attend revival services Sunday, June 21, through Tuesday, June 23. The Sunday night service begins at 6 while Monday and Tuesday services start at 7. Rosebloom’s annual Independence Day gala set
Rosebloom Recreational Park’s annual family-friendly Independence Day celebration will be held on the date of the nation’s historic 250th birthday, Saturday, July 4.
Admission is free, and everyone is encouraged to show their spirit and display their patriotic pride by wearing red, white and blue clothing or other appropriate apparel.
Festivities will begin at 2 p.m. with the opening of the shaded arts and crafts vendor area as well as noncompetitive car “show and shine” that allows car enthusiasts to show off their rides. The car exhibition will be ongoing until 6:30 p.m.
There will be a free water slide for the young’uns.
A concession stand will offer for purchase food, treats and beverages to satisfy the hunger and quench the thirst.
The late afternoon will bring recognition of the park’s youth ball teams, live music and a patriotic program during which veterans will be honored. Details about the time and musical lineup will be forthcoming.
The grand finale, about 9 p.m., will be one of the largest fireworks shows in the area.
Everyone is encouraged to bring their family, friends and lawn chairs to enjoy the festivities.

Old Antioch will celebrate 122nd anniversary
Pastor Lorenzo K. Robinson and the members of Old Antioch Baptist Church, 6479 Friendship West Road, Sumner, invite family, friends and the community to celebrate the church’s 122nd anniversary on Sunday, July 12, at 2 p.m. The theme will be “Celebrating God’s Faithfulness Through the Years,” from Lamentations 3:22-23. Rev. James Miller, of Shiloh Baptist Church in Shelby, will be the guest speaker.

Two churches preparing for Bible School
Calvary Chapel at Parchman and Faith Baptist Church of Charleston have arranged to host Vacation Bible School for children in this area the week of July 12-15.
A team of VBS teachers from First Baptist Church in Trussville, Alabama, will assist local church workers in providing a fun and safe learning experience for children age 3 to high school. The Bible school theme for both churches will be “Illumination Station.”
To help parents with scheduling, the children will be provided a light meal during VBS.
From Sunday through Tuesday, July 12-14, Calvary Chapel will host their VBS from 5:30 until 8:30 p.m.
From Monday through Wednesday, July 13-15, Faith Baptist Church will host VBS from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. daily.
Calvary Chapel is located just north of Highway 32, seven-tenths of a mile east of Parchman. Faith Baptist is located seven-tenths of a mile east of Charleston on Highway 32.
Mark your calendars for gospel celebration
The gospel music group, A Praising Grace, will be celebrating 24 years of Christ and togetherness on Saturday, Aug. 22, with a pre-celebration set for 5 p.m. on that date at Hayward Chapel, 2906 Highway 82 E., Greenwood. The actual anniversary celebration will be held the following day, on Sunday, Aug. 23, at 3 p.m., at Grayson Chapel in Glendora. All family and friends are invited to attend.
