Cossar State Park will celebrate
From 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., George Payne Cossar State Park, near Oakland, will host a “Pop-Up Shop” event on Saturday, July 4, to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary. Vendors are invited. The Friends of Cossar will host a golf cart parade at the park beginning at 7:30 p.m. To ask about vendor openings, call the park’s main office at 662-623-7356.
Rosebloom’s 4th of July gala set
Rosebloom Recreational Park’s Independence Day celebration will be held on the nation’s 250th birthday, Saturday, July 4.
Admission is free, and everyone is encouraged to show their spirit and display their patriotic pride by wearing red, white and blue clothing or other appropriate apparel.
Festivities will begin at 2 p.m. with the opening of the shaded arts and crafts vendor area. Arts and crafts vendor spaces are available for $25. For more information, contact Michelle Rideout at 662-520-8548.
A competitive car show will be open from 2-6 p.m. Car show entry is $25 and prizes will be awarded. For more information, contact Don Davis at 662-647-7043.
There will be a free water slide for children from 2-6 p.m. Children must be supervised.
Special gospel music by Ken Harrison and friends will begin at 4:30. At 5:30, gospel music will continue with local favorite, Troy Hill and friends.
At 6 p.m., master of ceremonies Dustin McKibben will open the patriotic program, which will include a special presentation by District 30 state Rep. Tracey Rosebud.
Recognition will be given to each veteran present. Car show awards will be presented.
To conclude the patriotic program, 2026 Rosebloom ballplayers will be announced. Players are asked to wear their ball uniform.
The band Honey Please will perform a variety of music from 6:45 until 8:45 p.m.
At 9, the grand finale will be one of the largest fireworks shows in the area.
Everyone is welcome and encouraged to bring family, friends and lawn chairs to enjoy the festivities.
Absolutely no alcoholic beverages will be allowed for this family-friendly activity.

Presbyterian community revival set
The First Presbyterian Church of Charleston is hosting a three-day communitywide revival, from Monday, July 6, through Wednesday, July 8, at 6 nightly.
Dinner will be served following the service on Wednesday night.
Corey Pelton of Georgia will be the visiting minister. Ken Lewis will be music leader.
“Please attend and enjoy good preaching, fellowship and music and receive a blessing,” noted a church spokesperson, who added, “Our community needs a revival. Please be a part.”

Old Antioch to celebrate 122nd
Pastor Lorenzo K. Robinson and the members of Old Antioch Baptist Church, 6479 Friendship West Road, Sumner, invite family, friends and the community to celebrate the church’s 122nd anniversary on Sunday, July 12, at 2 p.m. The theme will be “Celebrating God’s Faithfulness Through the Years,” from Lamentations 3:22-23. Rev. James Miller, of Shiloh Baptist Church in Shelby, will be the guest speaker.
Two churches prepare for VBS
Calvary Chapel at Parchman and Faith Baptist Church of Charleston have arranged to host Vacation Bible School for children in this area the week of July 12-15.
A team of VBS teachers from First Baptist Church in Trussville, Alabama, will assist local church workers in providing a fun and safe learning experience for children age 3 to high school. The Bible school theme for both churches will be “Illumination Station.”
To help parents with scheduling, children will be provided a light meal during VBS.
From Sunday through Tuesday, July 12-14, Calvary Chapel will host their VBS from 5:30 until 8:30 p.m.
From Monday through Wednesday, July 13-15, Faith Baptist Church will host VBS from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. daily.
Calvary Chapel is located north of Highway 32, seven-tenths of a mile east of Parchman. Faith Baptist is located seven-tenths of a mile east of Charleston on Highway 32.

New Town to host First District
The annual meeting of the First District of Tallahatchie County Association and its auxiliaries will be held at the New Town Missionary Baptist Church in Charleston during the week of Monday, July 13, through Thursday, July 16. Services begin each day at 5.
Food will be served on Wednesday, and the oratorical contest will be held on Thursday. Any graduates who would like to try for the scholarship may contact Stella Herron at 662-230-3029 for more information.
The moderator is Rev. Carl Ray and the vice moderator is Rev. Preston Coleman.

Calvary Food Pantry to distribute
Calvary Food Pantry, at 36 Ward-Riddick Road, just east of Parchman off Highway 32, will distribute food from 8-9 a.m. Saturday, July 18, for those living in the West Tallahatchie area and in Sunflower County outside the city limits of Drew (which has its own food pantry). Food pantry distribution day is next-to-last Saturday of each month.
Faith Food Pantry will distribute
Faith Food Pantry, located at 30028 Highway 32, Charleston, will distribute food from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 18. Food pantry distribution day is on the next-to-last Saturday of each month.

St. Luke homecoming program set
St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church, where Rev. J.H. Brown is pastor, will host their annual homecoming program on Sunday, July 26, at 2 p.m. Speaker for the occasion will be the Rev. Robert Myers. Dinner will be served immediately after the morning worship service. All are invited to attend.

Persimmon Hill 3-night revival set
Persimmon Hill Missionary Baptist Church of Enid will have three nights of revival from Wednesday, July 29, through Friday, July 31, at 7 o’clock. The guest speaker will be pastor Earnest Ware of Greenwood. All are invited to attend, noted Persimmon Hill pastor Andrew Fluker.

Sherman awarded Alabama degree
Phillip Sherman, of Holcomb, has received the Master of Library & Information Services during spring commencement ceremonies at The University of Alabama. The university awarded some 7,000 degrees during the exercises.
