Sandy Bayou to honor pastor, wife
Sandy Bayou Missionary Baptist Church will honor pastor Mario Cooper and wife Linda Cooper with a first-year appreciation program on Sunday, Oct. 4, at 11 a.m. at the church located five-and-a-half miles southwest of Webb. The guest speaker will be Joe Cooper, pastor of Prince of Peace Missionary Baptist Church in Memphis. All are invited to celebrate the occasion.
Persimmon Hill anniversary slated
Persimmon Hill Missionary Baptist Church of Enid will have their 152nd church anniversary on Sunday, Oct. 4, at 2 p.m. Guest speaker will be pastor Tyrone Edwards of Massey Grove church. All are invited to attend, noted Persimmon Hill pastor Andrew Fluker.

Class offers intro to Microsoft Excel
Mississippi State University Extension will offer a course in computer training, “Introduction to Microsoft Excel,” Tuesday, Oct. 6, from 10 a.m. until noon, at the Tallahatchie County Extension office at 202 S. Market St. in Charleston. The event will teach the basics of Excel spreadsheets. You may bring your own device, but laptops will be available. Call 662-647-8746 to register. Space is limited.
Paynes Water sets annual meeting
The annual meeting of the members of the Paynes Water Association will be held at the well house, 1485 Cole Hill Road, Charleston, on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 6 p.m.
Thursday October 8
2nd District college, career fair set
Congressman Bennie G. Thompson invites high school students, ROTC programs, job seekers and individuals considering a career change to his College and Career Fair Thursday, Oct. 8, 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Washington County Convention Center in Greenville.
The event will bring together representatives of colleges and universities, trade schools, businesses, federal and state agencies, local government, corporations and ROTC programs to connect attendees with education, career and employment opportunities.
CHS homecoming parade slated
The Charleston High School homecoming parade, “A Night to Remember,” will be Thursday, Oct. 8. The parade begins promptly at 5 p.m. on East Walnut Street. Participants of the parade are to arrive no later than 4 p.m. in order to line up for the parade route.
The parade will showcase CHS homecoming maids, CHS band, football players, cheerleaders, student organizations, former graduating classes and members of the community.
Grand marshal will be East Tallahatchie School Superintendent Raymond Russell.

Gateway to the Delta Festival slated
The Charleston Gateway to the Delta Festival will be held on Saturday, Oct. 10. The official program begins at 10 a.m. and the action continues until 11 p.m., all around the Charleston Court Square.
There will be live musical entertainment throughout the day, including gospel artist Glenda Brock Woods, Elvis impersonator Brian Lee Howell, the Charleston High School Marching Band, SLASH, Shameless All-Star Country Band and The Band U.S.
The festival will feature a car show, KidZone, arts and crafts vendors, food trucks and much more. Admission is free.
Glendora250 honors Williamson
Nathaniel Kimble, a celebrated Mississippi Delta artist whose career spans more than 18 years, will be the featured performer for Glendora250: Where Mississippi Made America’s Music, on Saturday, Oct. 10, from 1-7 p.m. in Glendora.
Seattle-based Jim Basnight, a renowned musician and blues historian, is the featured presenter and will make a presentation about how late Glendora harmonica legend Sonny Boy Williamson II made a lasting contribution to the blues and how his work continues to shape contemporary music.

Mt. Pisgah church sets homecoming
Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church will have homecoming on Sunday, Oct. 11. Music by Unity 4 will begin at 10 a.m. and Brother Truman Scarborough will be the speaker at 11. Fellowship follows services, and everyone is invited to attend.
Frierson Chapel anniversary told
Frierson Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, located at 4431 Jenkins Road, Brazil, will conduct a 126th church anniversary program on Sunday, Oct. 11, at 2 p.m. Guest speaker will be Rev. Joseph Martin, pastor of Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church of Glendora and St. John Missionary Baptist Church of Drew.

Teasdale ladies benefit fish fry set
The Teasdale Ladies Auxiliary Building will be the setting for a fish fry on Saturday, Oct. 17. Pickup will be from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Plates are $15 and include fish, hushpuppies, fries, tea, slaw and dessert. Proceeds benefit the building fund.

Silver Star 97th anniversary on tap
The Silver Star Missionary Baptist Church, located at 208 Main St., Rome, will commemorate its 97th year anniversary on Sunday, Oct. 18, at 3 p.m. Rev. Sylvester Walker, pastor of New Beginning Missionary Baptist Church in Webb, will be the guest speaker. Dr. Gregory Braggs Sr. is the pastor of Silver Star. All are welcome to attend.

Calvary Food Pantry to distribute
Calvary Food Pantry, at 36 Ward-Riddick Road, just east of Parchman off Highway 32, will distribute food from 8-9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, for those living in the West Tallahatchie area and in Sunflower County outside the city limits of Drew (which has its own food pantry). Food pantry distribution is on the next-to-last Saturday of each month.
Faith Food Pantry will distribute
Faith Food Pantry, located at 30028 Highway 32, Charleston, will distribute food from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24. Food pantry distribution day is on the next-to-last Saturday of each month.

James, Debra Hall to be honored
Pastor James and Evangelist Debra Hall of Hitt Chapel Rebirth Church in Webb will be honored on the occasion of their third-year anniversary of service on Sunday, Oct. 25, at 2 p.m., at The Unity Event Center, 193 E. Main St., Webb. Guest speaker will be Rev. Dexter Nailer of Shaw. All are invited.

Ole Miss reveals August graduates
A total of 1,200 students graduated from the University of Mississippi in August, including several local students.

• Rivers Wolfe, who majored in Allied Health Studies, received a Bachelor of Arts degree.
