At 2.8%, Tallahatchie County's unemployment rate tied for the fourth-lowest rate in the Magnolia State during August, according to a Mississippi Department of Employment Security monthly report.
MDES’ latest Labor Market Data Report showed 145 members of the county’s 5,121-person labor force were unemployed, and 4,976 employed, in August. The labor force consists of everyone age 16 and older who has a job or is actively looking.
In July, 173 of 5,185 Tallahatchie labor force members were jobless and unemployment stood at 3.3%.

The county’s August jobless rate was seven-tenths of 1% lower than the 3.5% figure in August 2025, when 179 of the 5,122-person labor force did not find work.
August unemployment rates for select area counties, with July’s figures in parenthesis, are:

Jones and Rankin counties, both at 2.4%, tied for the state’s lowest rate of unemployment in August, while Jefferson’s 9.1% was the state’s highest.
Hancock, Lafayette, Leake, Madison, Union and Webster counties all tied for the second-lowest unemployment rate, 2.6%, in the Magnolia State in August.
Neshoba, Scott and Tippah had the state’s third-lowest jobless rate of 2.7%.
Lamar and Tallahatchie counties, both at 2.8%, were listed as having the fourth-best rates of August unemployment in Mississippi, according to MDES.
