Cleaning up the mess left behind by Fern
Workers with Shane Sanders Tree Service on Monday (Feb. 9) load remnants of a large section of fallen tree from the grounds of the Dr. Monroe E. Smith Medical Building on South Market Street in Charleston. Like countless others in the area, the tree fell beneath the weight of ice that coated the area Jan. 23-25 upon the arrival of Winter Storm Fern. Fallen tree limbs brought down power lines and snapped utility poles, knocking out electrical service to thousands. Cleanup in impacted areas will be ongoing for weeks, if not months.
