Anyone desiring to qualify as a candidate for mayor or alderman must do so by quittin’ time on Friday.
Prospective candidates must file required paperwork at their respective municipal clerk's office by 5 p.m. on Jan. 31.
The latest to qualify for office, between Jan. 22 and Jan. 28, according to municipal clerks, are the following:
Tutwiler
» Johnie "Muffin" Sykes, 45, of 289 Passmore St., for mayor
Webb
» Michael Plez, 60, of 331 E. Main St., for reelection as mayor
» Barton Cox, 68, of 214 John St., for mayor
The general election will be June 3, and winners will begin a four-year term July 1.
