How beautiful was the snow we had late Thursday night and early Friday morning. Harvey Darby was offering ski lift rides pretty cheap.
Love and sympathy to the Nellie Coleman Kerr Ward family of Grenada. Nellie passed away Friday, Jan. 10, at her residence. Nellie was a sweet lady with a beautiful smile that would light up a room. She was always concerned about the person she was talking to and how they were doing. Rest in peace, sweet lady.
Diane Dukes said Bro. Rickey preached a good sermon Sunday about repentance.
Diane Dukes’ cousin, Linda, who came to visit over the summer, called and told her that her daughter, Kisten, had a baby girl and they named her Maxie Grace. She was born Jan. 7 and weighed 7 pounds, 5 ounces. They live in Georgia. Kisten and Scott said they was glad that was over. No more! Kisten, I said that three more times after I had my firstborn.
Joanna Pullen turned 4 years old Jan. 11. She called Terri Dukes, her grandmother, and said, “Where’s my present, Sam?” Anna, Joanna, Andrew Pullen and her aunt Holly, Haven Rose and Waylon Jr. had lunch at No Way Jose. Joanna will have her birthday party late because of last week’s bad weather. It will be Jan. 26 at Jolly Jumpers.
Martha Box said she missed her coffee buddies for a long week, so when they got off the freeway at Tillatoba she Facebooked “Honey I’m home.” Martha had been in the hospital in Jackson for foot surgery. Son Ben, Jamie and grandson, Josh, were at the back door and got her in as she landed. They have provided great care ever since, said Martha. Sister Joyce, Marissa, Addie and brother Jesse made the day easier. Martha said she had not eaten in a week, but they are feeding her so good now. Daughter Ginger, Phil and Josh made Martha happy and helped her to settle in Saturday night. “But poor Addie baby had the worst job, she had to give me my bath,” said Martha. We all are proud to know you are home and resting better, Martha. Martha’s daughter, Ginger, said Martha is glad to be home. She is still in a lot of pain but she’s adjusting well.
Ginger said Phil and she enjoyed Josh singing in church Sunday. He went back to college Sunday night and will be missed.
I think Lynn Marceleno was disappointed that they didn’t get as much snow as we did on our side of town. She said we couldn’t play in our snow. It barely covered the ground and it was slushy, then it froze up. Sheryn Goode is like me, staying inside and staying warm.
My good neighbor, Pat Darby, brought over some homemade vegetable soup and some honey-made cornbread. It was really appreciated and it certainly hit the spot. Pat makes beautiful crosses on rock stones and sells them. In fact, I have one in my den. He does a beautiful job.
Happy birthday to Max Lindley and Kerri Elizabeth Harris on the 15th; to Trevor Croy, Rachel McCulla and Jimmy Dees on the 16th; to Jere Lyn Prigmore and Cindy Traywick Banton on the 17th; to Linda Darby and Danny Jackson on the 18th; and to Bobby Cook and Winky Chambers on the 20th. May you all have a blessed birthday!
Recipe for the week, “Nilla wafer cake,” by Susan Traywick Bell:
½ cup butter, softened
1 box Nilla wafers
1½ cup granulated sugar
6 eggs
½ cup milk
1½ teaspoons vanilla extract
I cup sweetened, shredded coconut
1 cup chopped pecans
Preparation: Preheat oven to 350° and thoroughly grease a 10-inch Bundt pan. Poor Nilla wafers in a large Ziploc bag and seal. Crush with a rolling pin or wooden spoon until only fine crumbs remain.
In a large bowl, add butter and sugar. Mix for one to two minutes, until light and airy. Add eggs one at a time until fully incorporated. Add milk and vanilla until smooth. Fold in wafer crumbs, pecans and coconut until well incorporated.
Transfer batter to the prepared Bundt pan and bake 45-50 minutes. Cover top with foil the last 15-20 minutes to avoid over-browning.
Allow cake to cool 10 minutes, then use a knife to loosen sides and flip onto a serving plate. Let cake come to room temperature before slicing.
Thought for the day: I need to start eating healthier, but first I need to eat all the junk food in the house so it’s not there to tempt me anymore.
