J.R Dukes and Ashley Julian won first place in The Mid-South Couples Trail bass tournament on Pickwick Lake.
Conner Dukes has a cracked elbow due to an accident on the trampoline.
Cossar State Park will have bingo on the 19th for everyone 55 and up. Bingo is every third Wednesday of the month from 2-4 at the visitor center.
On March 15, Cossar State Park will have the Cossar Spring Classic. This will be a full day of disc golf. Cossar State Park Friends will have a barbecue sandwich, chips and a drink for $8 cash.
Martha Box went to her doctor for a checkup the 30th. He said five more weeks of no weight-bearing on that foot! Sister Patty Wortham Vaughn went back home Saturday. That sweet nurse/salad maker/dishwasher will be missed. Sister Joyce is still on duty. Martha said Joyce and brother Jesse and her kids are still spoiling her. Martha said she had been sitting at the door soaking in the sunshine Saturday and Sunday.
David and I rode up the road Sunday afternoon to visit with grandson Waylon, Haven Rose and little Waylon. Holly had to work. Haven Rose fixed me all kinds of play food with a little cook stove she got for Christmas.
Deborah McCool said she saw Maxine Tellis last week in her office and that she asked about your writer and said tell me hello. (Your writer used to work with Maxine and we became friends.)
After church, Tommy and I went to Senatobia and spent the afternoon with son Christopher, Samantha and Hayden. Samantha’s mom, Mary, is doing better. That’s great news, Deborah! Many prayers went up for her and her sweet daughter, Samatha.
Belated happy birthday to Bonnie Moody on the 3rd and to David Toney on the 5th. Happy birthday on the 6th to Cheyanne Anderson; to Sara Grace Paris on the 7th; to my sweet niece, Angie Beardain, on the 8th; and to Larry Cockerel on the 9th. May you all have a blessed birthday.
Recipe for the week: “Banana Bread Cookies” These cookies are soft and chewy.
Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup butter flavored shortening
1 cup white sugar
1 medium banana, peeled and mashed
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Glaze:
⅓ cup confectioners’ sugar
3 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
1 tablespoon milk, or more as needed
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
Combine flour, baking soda and salt in a bowl. Beat shortening and white sugar in a bowl with an electric mixer until smooth. Beat in banana, eggs and vanilla. Add dry ingredients and mix until combined; batter will be sticky. Drop rounded tablespoonfuls of dough 2 inches apart onto the prepared baking sheets. Bake in the preheated oven, switching racks halfway through until lightly browned, 10 to 15 minutes. While the cookies are baking, make the glaze: Beat confectioners’ sugar, butter, milk, and vanilla in a medium bowl until well combined. Add more milk as needed to attain a drizzling consistency. Remove cookies from the oven and transfer to wire racks. Drizzle glaze over warm cookies, then let cool for 25 minutes before serving.
