We got a good rain shower Monday morning. It came fast and left in a hurry, but it did cool things off.
David and I want to thank our down the road friend, Jason Beavers, for coming and cutting our grass Saturday, and Bubba Dukes for cutting some on it the week we were at the hospital. You two young men were lifesavers! Also, thank you Diane Dukes for the fish plates, Cokes and Boost; to Susan Bell of Caledonia for coming to the hospital and staying a couple of nights so I could rest, and the things she brought us; to our granddaughter, Frankie Holliday, for all the food she brought to the hospital and for checking on her granddaddy; to my grandson-in-law, Brad Holliday, for sitting all day with me during David’s surgery; and to daughter, Donna Garripoli, for her endless dedication to us in staying with us in the hospital and taking us back and forth to all his doctor appointments and for cooking for us. All of you deserve a star in your crown. We certainly appreciated every act of kindness.
Josh Harrison had a fun day at Northwest Community College preview day. Beautiful campus! Josh really liked it. His mother, Ginger Box, said they got to eat lunch with one of his favorite cousins, their very own NW Ranger, Chloe Box.
Happy anniversary to Timothy and Emily Little, who celebrated their fifth on April 23, and to Phil and Laurie Cordel, who celebrated six years on the 23rd. Congratulations to both couples and may you have many more years to celebrate.
Love and sympathy to the Dale Avery family of Big Creek. Dale 66, passed away at his home on Saturday, April 23. A memorial service honoring his life will be held at a later date.
Tommy McCool is a little better and he went to work Monday. Deborah, his wife, said he got out a little Sunday and watched her mow the front yard. Probably to make sure she was doing it right! Ha!
One of Panola County’s own, Steve McGregory, has been invited by another Panola Country hitmaker, Jameson Rodgers, to play alongside him May 7 on the Grand Ole Opry! What a great honor for you, Steve. You have done so much for music in our area. You are a household name when someone mentions piano playing. Steve plays the piano for Oakland Baptist Church and his wife, Linda, is the song leader. They are doing a great job in the music ministry.
Sunday was Youth Day at Pine Grove church, and Josh Harrison delivered the message. He did a great job, I was told. His mother, Ginger Box Harrison, is in the dog house with her mom, Martha Box, because she forgot to tell Martha and she missed it. Ginger said she brought her some of Diane Hill’s delicious dumplings to try to make up for her forgetfulness. I told Ginger that didn’t work and she should have dropped them off at my house because Martha was still mad Sunday night.
Faye Hartley and daughter Kristie went to her grandson Rowland Hartley’s ballgame Saturday in Batesville. Rowland was pitcher and did a great job. Faye’s granddaughter, McLendon, is playing T-ball and loving it.
Martha Box said she heard some wonderful music at Picking and Singing at Market Square in Grenada Tuesday night. “Those young’uns had me up and dancing about,” she said. Martha said on Sunday she had a great visit at Tillatoba Baptist Church, with wonderful preaching and sharing Jesus. She said Bro. Ricky Harris offered spirit-filled encouragement for Christians to share Jesus with the world and had her singing and praising.
Martha’s granddaughter and great-granddaughter, Rissa and Addie, helped Martha plant roses that daughter Ginger and Phil gave her for Mother’s Day. Then Ginger and Phil drove up with Diane's wonderful chicken and dumplings. Martha said Ginger brought her “that token because she forgot to tell me Josh was preaching today!”
Happy third birthday to Skylar Marie Renea Pegram on the 25th; to Renee Wortham DeLancey on the 30th; to Larry Franklin on May 3; and to Allan McMillian on May 4. I pray you all have a great birthday.
David and I want to thank all of you who were praying for him before and after his triple bypass open-heart surgery. He is home and doing well. It amazes me how soon they have you up and walking after major surgery.
Thought for the day: Though another may have more money, beauty or brains than you, when it comes to the rarer spiritual values such as charity, self-sacrifice, honor and nobility of heart, you have an equal chance with everyone to be the most beloved and honored of all people.
