Tillatoba Baptist Church had sunrise services at Union cemetery at 7 Sunday morning, then the Men's Ministry provided breakfast following the service in the church.
Well, Peter Cotton Tail has gone back down the bunny trail until next year! He left us a beautiful flower. Thank you so much, Diane Dukes. It is purple and white and absolutely gorgeous.
Friday night was Tillatoba Baptist Church’s turn to host for Holy Week. The children did a wonderful job saying their Bible verses and singing. Thank you, Kellie Young, for videoing the program.
Saturday, Debbie McCool went to her great-great niece’s birthday party in Grenada. She is the granddaughter of her nephew, Michael Merrill, and is so cute. Then they took Alice Kellum, Tommy’s sister, to Leland to stay a few days with Tommy and her sister, Patsy. They brought her home with them later Saturday night because she changed her mind about staying,
Sunday afternoon, Debbie’s daughter Kimberly, and Jason and Caitlyn Beavers, had a cookout for Easter. Debbie and Tommy went, and also there were Hannah and her fiance, Dallas Boyett and his mom and brother, Virginia, Sandy Beavers and Tray Pilgrahm. “Great fun,” said Deborah.
Before my ENT visit in Oxford Thursday, daughter Donna and I went by Newk’s for a sandwich and saw Linda and John Sivley enjoying lunch there. It was good seeing and visiting with them for a little while.
A little bird told me that on Good Friday, Emily and Scottie Little and Waylon and Holly Dukes, Haven Rose and Waylon Jr. spent the morning at one of their favorite places, the Memphis Zoo. One of sweet Scottie’s favorite things to see was the giraffe feeding and it was closed. What are daddies for if not to please their little girls. She told her daddy that they had to go! Of course, he couldn’t say no.
Haven Rose didn’t know her friend was at the zoo, but can you imagine how excited those two little girls would have been had they met up with each other? Waylon Jr. just laid up in his stroller with his little fat leg propped up enjoying the scenery.
Ginger Harrison said they all had a great Easter. She said Jake filled in as music leader at church and did a great job. Bro. Scarborough gave a great message. Afterward, they went to her momma’s (Martha Box’s) with all of them there including Diane Hill and Linda Harrison. Ginger said it was a fun day filled with love and family. That’s what it’s all about, Ginger.

Martha Box said she was so aggravated with her foot up after surgery, when she couldn’t do anything for four months. “But then Easter happened!” she noted. “And His presence and love swooped across our world and touched us all. He lives, in our busy, aggravated, painful, or can’t do lives.
Martha said she made it to church at Pope Willow Springs. “What an Easter Message Bro. Tommy gave! Could feel the Spirit all through the message,” she said. Martha said the singing “sooooo lifted me up.” She added that it was wonderful to see her cousins and friends after being tied down for four months.
Afterward, Martha’s kids and grands landed at her house. They did all the cooking, serving and cleanup, keeping Martha’s foot up as much as they could. “House so full of joy and laughter, it lifted me out of my ‘been down too long’ attitude,” said Martha. Diane and Linda Harrison added so much good food and Martha said it was so great to visit.
Mit and Dea Harper came down from Southaven to attend church with his parents, Milton and Sadie Harper, and they had a delicious dinner afterward.
The Diane Dukes family had their Easter Saturday at the Cossar State Park. Everybody came, with about 38 people in attendance. They had it catered from Taylor Grocery in Oxford. They brought fish, chicken and hushpuppies. They had all the trimmings. Diane said everyone was fixing to-go plates. “We had so much food and desserts there. Everybody enjoyed the strawberry pie I made. I got the recipe from Trudy Simmons,” Diane added. She said Jo, Haven Rose, Dub and Andy were happy to see the Easter bunny Sunday morning.
Sheryn Goode said her “sweet neighbor, Martha Box, sent me a plate of food and dessert for Easter. She is the best.”
Rowland Hartley played ball all day Saturday in a tournament. His team came in second, which made the family proud. They had a great lunch and egg hunt at the Hartley house with Faye, Mark, Kristie, Nathan, Rowland, Mary Brett and Mclendon, and also Annie Box and her two girls, Saylor and Emily. They all had a great time.
Jessie Williams had a house full of folks for Easter, including children and grandchildren. I know they had a good time.
Our Easter was cut short. David woke up not feeling well and we ended up at the ER in Oxford. David had fluid built up around his lungs. We stayed in the ER about four hours before they let us come back home. He was feeling better Monday morning, so hopefully they took care of the problem.
Recipe of the week: Hawaiian Chicken Salad
Ingredients:
1 can pineapple chunks
1 1/2 cups cubed chicken
1 cup chopped celery
1 cup halved green grapes
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
3/4 cup mayonnaise
3/4 tsp salt
Drain pineapple and cut into bite-sized pieces. Combine pineapple, chicken, grapes, celery, walnuts, mayonnaise and salt; toss lightly. Serve with crackers or bread.
