My great-grandson, Bradley Holliday of Grenada, and my grandson, Brewer Deck of Cleveland, played in the Grand Slam Mississippi State Tournament this weekend at Tupelo and they won the whole thing. My grandsons, along with their teammates, played great baseball for three days straight and came out victorious. They showed great grit and determination. Let’s congratulate PYB Elite on becoming the Grand Slam Mississippi 12U A state champions.
Haven Rose Dukes played her first game of T-ball for the season last Tuesday night at the Rosebloom ball field and was a happy little camper. She is a good little player and can hit and catch the ball. This is her second year of playing T-ball.
My sister Ann Hudson, along with Barry Baker, stopped by for a short visit last Tuesday after taking Ann’s daughter, Laura, Cliff Torrence and Madison to the airport in Southaven. They were going back to their home in California.
Mike and Rhonda Hailey of Houston visited Festus, Ruth Jane and Amanda Hailey Friday afternoon and they all went to Cracker Barrel in Batesville to eat supper.
Jared Robinson, is that fish you were holding up on Facebook for real? Jared was holding a big sword fish and he was not going to reveal where it came from. Not even to his grandmother, Connie Cockerel. Look ashamed, Jared!
“My up is not quite at ’em yet, but I am working on it,” said Martha Box, who added that the real news is the same — Jesus is forever! She had a great Pentecost Day service from Bro. Tommy Darby via the Facebook and said she enjoyed the singing and worship. Martha will try make it to church next week after getting a great report from her physical therapist on her foot. She still requires good workouts.
Martha enjoyed a good lunch at the Corner Store last Wednesday and again on Saturday. She reported great food and great service. Her sister, Joyce, doggy Dee, Ginger, Phil and the boys visited Martha Sunday afternoon and she said, “yes, I put Phil and Josh to work installing something for me.” She also noted that Brother Jesse's grandboys came by to trim some bushes for her. “And along came my little princess neighbor looking so pretty. I say I have been blessed over and over!” Martha concluded. Yes, you have, Martha.
Kristie Hartley has been in Destin, Florida, this past week with her friend Annie Box and her family. Faye was in Tupelo from Friday until Sunday for her grandson Rowland Hartley’s ballgames. One dedicated grandmother right there!
Daughter Donna came up Sunday and enjoyed some homemade pimento cheese sandwiches for lunch. After eating, she cleaned out a cabinet that I had started cleaning two days before and she swept and vacuumed my floors. I don’t think she minds doing things like that because she always finds something she wants! Ha!
A little funny for you all: I went this week and had my new hearing aids checked. The doctor asked me if I was enjoying them and I told her, yes, that I always thought my little great-granddaughter — by the way, she is a little redheaded girl and I always told people that to be a redhead, she has the sweetest little voice and I didn’t think she was going to be hot-tempered. (You know what they say about redheaded people.) Well, after getting my new hearing aids and going to visit her, I found out that she doesn’t talk so softly anymore. Maybe I needed those hearing aids a long time ago.
Happy birthday to Bo Williamson and Stacy Langham on the 11th; Alice Beverly McBride on the 14th; my sweet neighbor, Lila Myrick, Bro. Rickey Harris and Allison Dukes on the 14th; and Donna Gunn and twin brother David McMillian on the 16th. I pray all of you enjoy your day!
Recipe for the week: ”Easiest Chicken Pot Pie”
Add to one 8-inch pie crust, one can of cream of chicken soup, one can of mixed vegetables and 2 cups of frozen chicken strips. Add a can of crescent rolls on top of your ingredients and brush with melted butter. Cover with foil. Bake in a 350° oven for 45 minutes. This is so easy to make and so delicious.
Thought for the day: My therapist told me the way to achieve true inner peace is to finish what I start. So far, I’ve finished two bags of M&M’s and a chocolate cake. I feel better already.
