Tillatoba Baptist Church is hosting a fun-filled Vacation Bible School July 6-8 from 6 to 8:30 each night. Son, Logan Deck of Madison came Wednesday and brought dinner from McAlister‘s. It was all so good and we had enough leftovers for supper that night and dinner the next day. Then, daughter Donna came up Sunday and brought chicken and all the trimmings and it was delicious. Sister Ann Hudson of Grenada joined us after church. Donna had made us a Tang pie and while loading up her dogs to bring it, she put the pie on the dog crate and went off and forgot it. I told her I would come to Grenada and visit her. Ha ha! I hope the pie is still good.
I forgot to mention, Donna brought me her first ripe tomato.
Congratulations to James Lee Sturdivant for winning first place (2nd-3rd grades) in the Mississippi Association of Conservation Districts poster contest for 22 North Mississippi counties.
Festus, Ruth Jane and Amanda Hailey visited Peggy Bailey at the Charleston nursing home last Sunday.
Martha Box said she has been tied down for six months due to her foot injury and she is working on herself so much that she can't keep up with the fast-moving world! Martha has been out and about with boot and cane, working with physical therapy. Ben at Encore has her almost out of the boot permanently. She said she did wear just sport shoes Sunday to church with a to-my-ankle skirt so no one would see.
Pastor Tommy Darby gave such an exceptional message on the rapture and what occurs after, even for those that have read it and been taught it for years, Martha said, noting that “it put the heart, the mind and soul thinking!” The song that Dave Box followed with was an awesome exclamation, she added. Martha said it was so good to see her friend Charlie Darby and his lovely wife at church. She always loves visiting with family and friends there.
Martha enjoyed family visits and lunch with sister Joyce and brother Jesse. “That Ole Corner Store serves such good food,” she said. “That Thursday chicken was exceptional!” Martha said her can’t-do self finally gave in to the maid, noting that Amber did such a fantastic job that she relaxed and napped for two hours after.
David said we have a lot of blackberries in the pasture but he can’t get to them. I guess the birds will enjoy them, but I would have enjoyed them more with a good hot buttermilk biscuit.
Happy 5th anniversary to Waylon and Holly Dukes, who got married on July 8, 2020. For this marriage milestone, couples traditionally gift each other wood. This reflects the strength and durability of your marriage, as well as the strong roots you're putting down. Silverware, on the other hand, is the modern gift for fifth anniversaries.
Happy birthday to Kathy Dukes, Doxie Purdy Fernandez and Brad and Brian Holliday on the 3rd; to Bart Haltom on the 4th; Amanda Fergson on the 5th; and my friend always, from Texas, Scott Wolfe. May you all have a blessed day celebrating your special day!
Recipe for the week: Scalloped Pineapple
4 cups fresh breadcrumbs (buns are best)
1 (20-ounce) can drained pineapple chunks
3 beaten eggs
2 cups sugar
1 cup of melted butter
Toss breadcrumbs and pineapple together and place in two-quart baking dish. Combine other ingredients and pour over the first layer. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes. You may make it a day ahead and refrigerate until ready for baking.
Thought for the day: It’s never too late to be what you might have been.
